Busy Season Strategies | Part 1: How to Attract the Right Type of Visitors to Your Website

Traffic to your website doesn’t matter unless they are the right visitors. This is the first step to any busy-season strategy. Because this tactic seems relatively obvious to any business owner it is often the step that is easily overlooked. So, take some time and implement these tips on how to attract the right type of visitors to your website.

1. Optimize your website for those searching you

Going back to the basics of “the customer always comes first”, those businesses who think customer-first will ultimately come out on top. This approach should also apply in your SEO strategy. While the term SEO or “search engine optimization” implies you should be optimizing for the search engines, great websites are optimized for those searching via the search engines. So, when creating or updating your website consider first those who are searching for you. Be sure your website is answering their questions and needs. Create a website that is optimized for searchers and search engines will follow.

2. Invest in Google Ads search campaigns

While search engine optimization should be the foundation of your online presence, Google Ad search campaigns give your property an opportunity to be placed at the top of the search results page. Not only will you capture more traffic being on Google’s first page, but you’ll know exactly what your target audience is searching for (and how much revenue those terms are referring) so you can incorporate those keywords into your search engine optimization strategy to make it that much more impactful! 

3. Create new strategic website content

The more content you have, the more you create opportunities for your guests to find you. Creating strategic website content, i.e., blogs, videos, and travel guides, can be powerful tools to attract the right customers to your website. Think about what questions your guests frequently ask and build helpful content around those topics. Focus on using these content opportunities to speak directly to your guests’ wants and needs.

4. Partner with relevant third-party sites

Partnering with relevant third-party sites does not mean working with OTAs but rather strategically seeking out partnerships with other local businesses to help promote your property. Engage in a partnership with your local chamber of commerce or visitor’s bureau for placement on their websites, particularly during popular events and holidays. Promote local attractions and partner with local festivals and events for additional exposure.

5. Be social

Social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram are not only beneficial to be on, but they are also excellent resources for finding those keywords that are most important to your business. Track different social media networks and listen to what problems your customers face. This will drive your business towards opportunities to get involved. Answer the question in a blog or another page on your website and share that solution via social media to your customers. They will thank you for it by visiting and eventually converting on your website.
